What information is provided by the sign of r and what information is provided by the numerical value of r?

Solutions

Expert Solution

I hope r means correlation coefficient.

Sign of r represents positive or negative correlation between independent and dependent variable. If r is positive that we consider positive correlation between independent and dependent variable that means one unit increase in dependent variable create and increase of |r| times in independent variable. Similarly for negative correlation one unit increase in dependent variable creates decrease in |r| times in independent variable and vis verse.
