Expert Solution

A) The most possible complication in massive blood loss due to trauma is HEMORRHAGIC SHOCK ( hypovolemic shock)

HEMORRHAGIC SHOCK occurs when your body starts to shut down due to large amounts of blood loss, as body organs don't get the requires oxygen and other essential substances carried by blood.

The complications of hemorrhagic shock ( hypovolemic shock) are :

  1. Damage to the organs such ad kidneys and brain.
  2. Gangrene to the leg.
  3. Heart attack ( myocardial infarction).

B) Emergency care & First Aid:

  1. Call 911 if someone is bleeding heavily or having symptoms of shock.
  2. If the victim doesn't have head injury, neck injury or spine injury lay them on their back with legs elevated 12 inches from the ground.
  3. Do not elevate their head.
  4. Remove any visible dirt or debris from the injury site.
  5. Do not remove any stuck object in the wound.
  6. If there is no object stuck in the wound tie fabric such as shirt, towel etc around the wound to minimize the bleeding.
  7. Apply pressure to the site of injury if you can or tape the fabric.
  8. Do not drive to the hospital on your own if you are bleeding heavily.
  9. Wait for emergency personnel arrive.
