Differentiate between expressed and implied consents and provide an example of each for these 2 (two) types of consents in the context of provision of first aid (in 60-80 words).
Expressed consent is valid consent communicated either verbally or in written form. Express consent is when the patient directly communicates their positive and explicit consent to the doctor or health care provider. Express consent is not time limited unless the user withdraws their consent.
eg: the victim tells that it is ok to provide assistance. In this case, the victim must be able to understand the situation and communicate clearly in order to provide expressed consent.
When an individual is unable to provide expressed consent, the rescuer must rely on Implied consent. Implied consent happens because the victim is unconscious, but may also be a result of intoxication, language barriers, mental disorders or age. With implied consent, there is an assumption that the victim would ask for help if he or she could. Implied consent occurs through the actions or conduct of the patient rather than direct communication through words. It is time limited.
