Communicable diseases are the disease that spreads from one person or animal to other. Pathogen including virus bacteria and fungi can cause these diseases.
Communicable diseases can be best prevented by following measures;
(1). Safe handling of food and its preparation:
Food items can carry germs especially raw meats, fruits and vegetables, so wash hands, utensils and places when preparing any food. Always try to cook and keep food at proper temperature.
(2).Hand washing: One of the most important and simple way of preventing communicable diseases is hand washing. Our hands may carry many germs even if they don't look dirty. So it is important to wash hands often.
Do remember to wash hands after using bathroom, treating a cut or wound, contact with sick person, putting and removing protective equipment like a face mask.
Always clean hands after touching another person's hands, touching animal or pet, coughing or sneezing, handling garbage.
(3). Clean and disinfectant commonly used area or surfaces:
Germs may present over surfaces. Washing with soap and water is enough to clean it. But still we should disinfectant bathroom and kitchen regularly as possible. Use of bleaching powder is recommended.
(4). Cough and sneezing etiquette: The air comes out when an infected person cough or sneeze may contain germs. Someone close to this air, or touch surface contaminated with this germs become ill. So try to cough or sneeze in the tissue or shirt sleeve not in the hands.
(5). Avoid sharing personal items: Avoid sharing inanimate objects, needles should never be shared, should be used once and thrown away.
(6). Vaccination: vaccination is important measure in preventing communicable diseases. We should get some vaccination in childhood and some in adults. Make sure all family members are up to date on vaccination.
(7). Avoid touching wild animals: Animal can carry germs and it will be transferred by touching. So avoid touching wild animals and take medical treatment if you are bitten.
(8). Stay home while sick: It is important to take proper rest and to be isolated to prevent infectious disease.
