Define the role of transcription factors
Ans:- there are different types of transcription factors in humans which are called as Human transcription complex and are Activators, Repressors, Basal factors, and coactivators.
Activators;- these regulatory proteins bind to the DNA at distinct sites known as enhancers, enhancers are brought into proximity with transcription complex upon folding of DNA, the activator proteins interact with the complex to increase the rate of transcription.
Repressors:- The regulatory proteins bind to the sites of DNA called silencer sites hence preventing the binding of the activators to nearby enhancers and so slowing transcription.
Basal Factors:- these transcription factors in response to the coactivators position RNA polymerase at the start of the protein coding sequence and then release rhe polymerase to transcribe the mRNA.
Coactivators:- these transcription factors transmit signals from activator proteins to the basal factors.
