These transcription factors only induce the transcription of the few genes they bind to. Which of the following terms best describes these proteins?
A. Distal cis-elements
B. Proximal cis-elements
C. General Trans-elements
D. Regulatory trans-elements
Proximal cis-elements :
Promoter-proximal cis-acting sequences are located near the transcription initiation site and the promoter sequence (RNA polymerase-binding region). These sequences bind to transcription factors which in turn assist in the binding of RNA polymerase to promoter. These transcription factors are called proximal cis-elements.
