ANSWER :

▪︎SITUATION A :

ACTION : Recap the needle using a one handed recapping technique when sharp container is not there in the room.

  • Recapping needles is done only when no alternative is available.
  • The cap must not be held in one hand while guiding the needle into the cap, as it can lead to prick or injury to the hand holding the cap , which causes exposure to blood born pathogens.
  • In one handed tecnique , the needle itself is made to pick up the cap with single hand which prevents exposure.

▪︎SITUATION B : You are getting ready and to apply gloves and notice that you have cut on your finger

ACTION :

  • a)Cut should be covered with a banadage before wearing the gloves, because gloves may tear.
  • b)Wear double glove for extra protection

▪︎SITUATION C : You accidentally get some blood on your bear hands while removing your gloves.

ACTION :

  • a)Wash hands and affected skin area thoroughly with soap and water as soon as possible.
  • b)I will notify the exposure incident to my supervisor as soon as possible.

▪︎SITUATION D : A part time clinical medical assistant was just hired she is not immunised against hepatitis B.

ACTION :

  • a)Training should be given to the her regarding hepatitis B vaccination, safety , benefits, efficacy ,modes of administration, and availability.
  • b)She should be encouraged to take the vaccine unless there is no contraindication.
  • c)Vaccine should be offered to her at no cost within 10 days of risk determination, after the training has been completed.
  • d)If she declines to get the vaccination she should sign a hepatitis B vaccine declination form. She may choose to get vaccinated anytime in the future.
