Expert Solution

Epidemiology is a branch of medicine which deals with the incidence, distribution and control of diseases related to human health.

Epidemiological triad well is a traingle shaped sign which is a traditional model for infectious diseases.

The triad consists of an external agent, a susceptible host and the environment which brings the agent and host together.

Let us see what are these three components in detail.

The diagram shown below is the epidemiological triad,

  • Agent : an agent is an external source or any organism which is susceptible to create infection in the human being.

For example, salmonella bacteria causes typhoid.

Here, salmonella bacteria is the agent.

  • Host : A susceptible host is the human being or the person who comes in contact with the agent and who affects with the disease or will be the carrier of the disease ( one who is able to spread the disease to others but will not have any symptom of that particular disease in that person who carries the agent).

For example : In this present scenario of spreading of corona virus, the man is the host which carries the virus within the body and virus is the agent which is causing infection. When a man with corona virus comes is contact with another person, the virus enters the body of the another individual.

  • Environment : A suitable or favourable environment is necessary for the agent to enter the body of the host to create infection.
  • Some infectious organism needs cold environment but some others need a normal body temperature of human being for spreading the infection.
  • Environment can be anywhere for the agent comes in contact with the host.

Note : Epidemiological triad well explains how a person affects the disease with the three components namely an agent, a susceptible host and an environment.
