Name 3 physiological manifestations seen in the Minnesota Semi-starvation experiment. Briefly explain why each physiological manifestation might occur due to semi-starvation.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Minnesota semi starvation experiment was to study in detail the physical and psychological effects of prolonged ,famine like semistarvation on healthy man,as well as subsequent rehabilitation from this condition. The study coducted in three phase : a 12 week control phase ,physiological and psychological observations were collected to establish a baseline for each subject,a 24 week starvation phase during which caloric intake of each subject was drastically reduced causing each participant to lose an average of 25%of their prestarvation body weight ,finally a recovery phase in which various rehabilitative diets were tried to renourish the volunteers.During semistarvation phase were dramatic. Beyond the gaunt appearence of men ,there were significant decrease in strength and stamina, body temperature ,heart rate and sex drve. The phsychological effects are signiicant as well.Hunger made the men obsessed with food.
