It has been said that “underdevelopment is a state of mind.” Comment.
Underdevelopment is a state of mind statement signifies that countries are underdeveloped in terms of low level of per capita income, prevalence of wide spread poverty, lower rates of literacy and inefficient utilization of resources because of the people's state of mind. That countries have developed because of their openness to redistribution and equitable resources.
This is not the case in several Latin American countries which have faced underdevelopment because they are not open to change, their state of mind is that one should prosper but others shouldn't at the same time. It has led to poor development in such regions and unstable governments and regimes. The resources are also purposely not distributed equally, leading to further volatile situations and repressions, ultimately stemming the growth process and limiting the growth in such countries.
Underdevelopment is truly a state of mind because when human beings are not inventing, conceptualizing, that is when underdevelopment occurs. In order to help in the development process, a country should have people who are willing to solve problems, help one another in trying to invent, and perform several tasks with the help of the mind, when individuals don't collectively work for the betterment of each and everyone in the society, there is bound to be underdevelopment.
