Consider an experiment to determine the effects of alcohol and marijuana on driving. Five randomly selected subjects were given alcohol to produce legal drunkenness and then are given a simulated driving test (10 a top score; 0 a bottom score). Five different randomly selected subjects are given marijuana and the same driving test. Finally, a control group of five subjects is tested for driving while sober.
Mean St. Deviation
Alcohol 2.4 1.3
Drugs 3.6 1.8
Control 6.8 1.3
State the null and alternative hypotheses. What is the obtained F and the critical F at the .05 alpha level? Do you accept or reject the null hypothesis? If necessary, calculate the Tukey’s HSD and determine which groups are significantly different from each other.
