This is a student's second coding class in her health information management program. Last semester she learned about ICD‐10‐CM and ICD‐10‐PCS (ICD‐10‐CM/PCS). This semester she is taking an advanced ICD‐10‐CM/PCS course. Her professor stressed the importance of coding from actual records. She remembered her brother had copies of his medical records at home and thought it would be good practice for the class. The next class, she brought her brother’s medical records to the professor to use as an example for the coding students.

Medical Coding

It is the transforming of healthcare diagnosis,procedures,medical services and equipment into universal medical alphaneumeric codes

1.In the above given senario a medical coding student brought her brother's medical record to her class room as a good practical for the whole class.Here, the act of student is fully opposes the ethics of medical coding.As a medical coder we must maintain the confidentiality of the patient's records we are not suppossed to assess the patient data not related to the data we are working on and never share this to some one else without the consent of the patient.

so here the professor should tell her to get a consent from her brother and not to share unnecessary data and personal informations.

2.In future if she wants to share medical records with class.

*She should get a consent from the person who own those records.

*Don't share unnecessary informations with others

*Only share the needed data

*Don't disclose the personal information or identity

3.There is difference in coding from achual medical records and coding from textbook case studies.Because the textbook case studies are generally following a same pattern whereas achul medical records pattern may varies from time to time .so coding achual medical records will help us to know about updated patterns of medical records and also after qualifing we have to work with achual medical record not with textbook case studies so it can be a effective practice for future.
