skin is the largest organ in the body, it has 2 layers namely epidermis and epidermis. epidermis is present outside and covers the body whereas dermis is present beneath the epidermis.epidermis has 5 layers and one important layer that pushes up older skincells to superficially  and forming new cells.dermis has contains blood vessels, lymphnodes,nerves, receptors, hair shafts and tough connective tissue . it has sweat glands and  sebaceous glands. functions of skin are protection from infection, removes waste,synthesis of vitamin D, sensory function and regulates body temperature.

older people have  loss of elasticity, tone in skin and leads to dryness. furher more it crackles easily due to change of connective tissue that reduce skins power and elasticity. Additionally, reduction in natural oil and sweat gland function further causes dryness.

1. when educating an older adult. about skin care, the nurse teachs the older adult  it is important apply a thick moistuizer immediately after a bath while the skin is stil wet.

2.A scar is an abnormal formtation of connective tissue that replaces normal skin

older adults are risk people and tend to get injury due to the physiological changes. it is better to care them in effectivel way, thereby it reduces dryness of their skin.
