The refugee population faces many challenges and issues, obvious many of the immigrants want to become citizens. And, it is difficult to become citizens with paperwork and lawyer fees. How can a Community Health nurses assist in the health of this population?
a community health nurse can assistrefuges in different ways
1)language barriers may be the first problem because having access to an interptreter and one that speakes appropriate language is uncommon ,so a health team can help them to convey their concerns for example with support of pictures and videos ,gestures or written summaries
2)differences in cultural background and experience make difficulties for accessing care - health care team members can help them by being culturally competent .therefore a nurse should perform a cultural competence self assessment and need to improve communication and language barriers
3)break down in health systems in country of orgin ,poor sanitation and contaminated water before or during migratory journey increase the risk for various infections -proper screening is necessary to identify all health issues
4)post traumatic stress disorders are more common among refugees - a nurse can help them to identify their level of depression and anxiety - for example ,help them to be organize themselves and teach deep breathing exercise ,teach them to make time for hobbies ,exercise
5)children with out parents are vulnerable to various exploitation and post traumatic stress disorder - nurse can better identify them and help seek medical attention
6)making health systems refugee and migrant friendly is important
7 ) it is necessary to ensure that all health care workers are equiped and equipped and experienced to diagnose and manage all infectious conditions such as tuberculosis ,hepatitis ,HIV and so on
8)nurse can help provide compassionate care for the most vulnerable
9)as caregivers and advocates for patients and other providers nurses are crucial to the health and well-being of individuals ,families and communities
