choose if you agree or not with the statement and explain why.
Fishes become more active & increase their metabolism, as temperature increases. This lead to a decrease of the oxygen demand of the organisms?
Fishes, Amphibians and reptiles are ectotherms. Their body
temperature keeps increasing with the increase in the temperature
of the environment and decreasing with the decrease in the
temperature of the environment.
In fishes and other ectotherms, rising temperature increases the
standard metabolic rate, because enzymes responsible for metabolism
will be more active at rising temperature upto a particular extent.
When metabolism increases, the energy required for the metabolism
also increases. In order the energy to be generated more cellular
respiration has to be carried out, for which more oxygen is
needed.
So, at increasing temperatures, more oxygen demand will be there in
fishes.
So, in the above given statement, fishes become more active and increase their metabolism as temperature increases - is correct
But "this lead to a decrease of the oxygen demand of the organisms" is not correct.
