It means that a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.
Characteristics
The main characteristics to follow while delivering the care are
1.Getting to know someone;for delivering a qualitative compassionate care 1st and foremost characteristics of a nurse to know someone,it means in terms of sufferings and their problem
So it can able to identify their existing problems and can provide a qualitative care to the client.
2.listening;The nurse should also carry the characteristics like listening,he or she should be active listener to know about patients worries or sadness
It can able to plan a effective care for the patient
3.Paying attention;This characteristics is helps to identify the variety of problems present in the patient
Attention is also helps to reduce tension and anxiety due to disease
4.kindness;The nurse must and should follow kindness
In the form of helping out the patient in difficult situation,the kindness include soft and polite talks to the patient

5.Empathy;Empathy helps nurses build a trusting connection with those in their care by focusing on the patient's point of view.
This strengthens communication because nurses can gain an understanding of how patients are coping and what they are experiencing.
