Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Tunnel boring machines are used as an alternative to drilling and blasting (D&B) methods in rock and conventional "hand mining" in soil. TBMs have the advantages of limiting the disturbance to the surrounding ground and producing a smooth tunnel wall. This significantly reduces the cost of lining the tunnel, and makes them suitable to use in heavily urbanized areas.

3. There are many types of TBM’s to suit the specific ground conditions so the costs can and do vary greatly from project to project. Knowing which one you require is an art form. The operation of a TBM requires a large support network not only those men inside the TBM itself. There might only be 10 men in the TBM itself during a shift but dozens are involved outside dealing with excavated material, lifting in tunnel segments, power supply, grout and water supply and a hundred other support roles 24 hours a day.For operation costs you would not have much change from 5 million euro per month to run, supply material and feed materials to a 7m diameter TBM or 7000 euro per hour 24 hours per day. This is your life support system for the TBM and it is a very demanding master.

1. This programming assignment will involve the idea of modern-day banking using an automated teller machine (ATM). The server-side software maintains a bank account and a user accesses the account via client software. For this program, you can assume that a single account will be accessed by a single user. This avoids synchronization problems with multiple users. There must be two sides to this program: a server and a client. The server maintains the balance and does all updates (withdrawals...
