You are the appointed Supply Chain Manager for a company that
manufactures and sells its products to retailers and to end
consumers. The company uses its own trucks to deliver to retailers
and UPS for its online orders to deliver to end consumers.
Apply your understanding of the 5 components of Supply Chain by explaining to me as your CEO how are you going to successfully plan, source material & equipment, manufacture, deliver and handle returned items. Give examples and elaborate as necessary.
Remember the 5 basic components are:
1. Planning
2. Sourcing
3. Making
4. Delivering
5. Returning

AS A ROLE OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER :
Supply chain management is a process used by Companies to ensure that their supply chain is effective and cost effective. A supply chain is the collection of step that a company takes to transform Raw material into final product.
As a supply manager works in plans , manages and coordinate all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of necessary materials and supplies to meet the changing level of products demand.
Supply chain manages promote the design, development and implementation of warehouse , distribution and logistics solutions. They manage labor costs, personal productivity, inventory level , data accuracy and stocking strategies.
COMPONENTS :
1) Planning :
The initial stage of the supply chain process is the planning stage. Manager need to develop a plan or strategy in order to address how the product and service will satisfy the demand and necessities of the customer. The planning should mainly focus on designing a strategy that maximum profit. Supply chain management mainly focuses on planning and developing a set of metric.
2) Sourcing ;
After planning, the next step involves sourcing. Manager's mainly concentrate on building a strong relationships with supplier of the Raw material required for production. Companies need to select Suppliers to deliver the item and services they require to develop their products. The supply chain manager can combine all these processes for handing their good and services inventory.
3) Making :
In this stage, the product are designed, produced, tasted , packaged for delivery. The task of the supply chain manager is to schedule all the activities required for manufacturing, testing, packaging and preparation for delivery.
4) Delivering :
The products are delivered to the customer at the destined location by the supplier. This stage is basically the logistics phases, where customer order are accepted and delivery of the good is planned. The delivery stage is often referred as logistics, firms collaborate for the receipt of order from customers.
5) Returning :
The final stage of suppy chain management is referred as the return. In this defective or damaged goods are returned to the supplier by the customer. The companies need to deal with customers queries and respond to their compliments.
So, the supply chain is at the heart of companies operation, supply chain manager is ion charge of products journey from Sourcing material ro ensuring its mees customer demand.
