a. The operations manager's job always includes converting the necessary resources to the desired output. Resources always include Manpower, machine, Material, & money & desired output include goods and services produced by the company to their customers. For the various process some necessary operations need to perform by the operation manager given below:
Production planning.
Production operation
Quality management.
Manufacturing engineering.
b. Advantage of Manufacturing Engineering:
Manufacuring engineering design end to end process of assembly line whatever the process need to follow. They define standard operating procedure efficiently for assembly line. So that operation can be finish in minimum time to avoid the unwanted losses.
e.g. Any mobile manufacturing company which has the manufacuring engineering department prepare the work instruction for production line. The same process need to follow for mass production.
ME define the capacity of production line based on observed time study. So that we can do future capacity planning to fulfill the customer requirement.
e.g. ME study the observed time by stopwatch and prepare a excel sheet to maintain the data. On basis of this data cycle time is calculated for each production stage and calculate the capacity of production line.
ME prepare the layout of plant in which material flow, manpower flow and storage are defined so that better utilize the space and facility with efficient output. It always reduce the losses in terms of unwanted movement.
e.g. Layout always prepare in microsoft vision or autocad software for better visulization to implementation team & other department. A material flow is define from Raw material store to finished good store.
Please note there is no disadvantage of operation management untill & unless planning is not executed in proper way.
