Sampling Technique
-> The sampling technique preferable to select the sample for the study is a stratified random sampling technique .
-> The technique chosen above will give us the sample that is a representative of the population.
-> Our objective is to improve the heating percentage. So, we
divide the group in some factors and perform an analysis. The
factors that mostly affect hitting percentage are: order of
batting, hits, total balls faced. There are other factors but these
contribute the most for hit percentage. There are 9 players in each
team during a match. But we would perform analysis on the entire
squad say 20 members by collecting data by survey. The players will
be divided according to their batting order in groups, first three,
next three, last three. Then the players are allotted to the group
they belong and then they are selected by random sampling. This way
the order based analysis is to be performed.
Now we divide the highest hits a player in the team has scored by
the number of groups we want to divide in. These groups are the
strata. Again in a similar way the players are allotted in the
strata and then selected by random sampling from each strata and an
analysis is performed. We do the same thing with total balls faced
and find out using the all three calculations the most utility
players in order. This would help to form the best team with a
higher hitting percentage. this technique can be used on another
team to buy their most utility players with another factor, the
price of each player. This would allow a team to buy the most
useful player for a given price.
-> A possible flaw or would be that that if we select all players with most hits, that might serve the purpose but that would not result in a balanced team. Here a sample is chosen is in terms of batting order thus giving a balanced team in result.
Data Classification
-> From the requirement of the question, a quantitative data would serve the purpose. Order of bating, hits, total balls faced all would give qualitative results when survey. Quantitative factors would not have much impact on the hitting percentage.
-> The order of bating belongs to interval level of measurement as it can be divided in an equal class interval and true zero value does not exist. The hits and the total balls faced come under the ratio level of measuring as they can be divided in class intervals and true zero value exists.
-> The data collected will be the sample which can represent the population.
-> Numerical description of the data will be statistic(s).
