Compare and contrast sterilization and sanitization; give a detailed descriptions of ALL techniques discussed in the text and notes used for both.
Paragraph form
There is huge difference in sanitization and sterilization process. one has ie sanitization is cleaning a thing or living /cell from infecting bacteria/virus/other harmful conditions, while sterilization is completely removing off any kind of living cells/infecting things , even completely cut off from the living environment.
Obviously the techniques for both are also different or
different in a level.
sanitization techniques are
1. cleaning by water- simplest
2. cleaning by soaps and detergents- it should be of good properties.
3.High Pressure Washing - for walls, floors,Spray can form aerosols mist from irritating chemicals
4.Foam Cleaning - for small sections
sterilization techniques are
!. wet heat- AUTOCLAVING ,using pressurised steam to heat the material to be sterilised. very effective
2. dry heat- FLAMING/BAKING, dry heat tends to kill microbes by oxidation of cellular components. Not for protein hydrolysis.
3.filtration - passing the solution through a filter with a pore diameter that is too small for microbes to pass through.its a quick way.
4. solvents-Ethanol, Isopropanol are solvents. denaturing proteins through a process that requires water, so they must be diluted to 60-90% in water to be effective.
5. radition-UV, x-rays and gamma rays they damage DNA there by killing the cells completely.
