Gametophytes of liverworts is a thallose like structure and grows horizontally while mosses have prostrate and branched gametophytes which mainly grows vertically.

Both liverworts and mosses require water for fertilisation. They grow near moist and watery environment. They are also known as amphibians of plant kingdom.

Gametophyte is the dominant generation in both liverworts and mosses.

Stomata is absent in both liverworts and mosses.
