Discuss the validity of the following statements. What is more important than whether you ultimately classify the statement as true or false is your justification for arriving at your conclusion.

  1. ASCII is an 8-bit character set.

  2. When a process is running, all of its code and data must be present in physical primary memory.

  3. Since C uses 0 to represent false and treats any non-0 quantity as true, using & for logical-and (instead of &&) is not an error.

  4. The product of 2 16-bit unsigned integers can be represented without overflow using a 32-bit unsigned integer.

  5. A thread can contain multiple processes.

Hi, I would love to answer you with this question. I hope you will like an answer and get a clear idea related to the same. So not wasting much time let's get started.

Discuss true or false

1. ASCII is an 8-bit character set.

  • True, Firstly the ASCII used a 7-bit character set then it could only be up to 128 then it enhanced to 8-bit i.e 256 it can handle

2. When a process is running, all of its code and data must be present in physical primary memory

  • True, This is true as the code in the secondary memory cannot run till the code is loaded to the primary memory as RAM.

3. Since C uses 0 to represent false and treats any non-0 quantity as true, using & for logical-and (instead of &&) is not an error.

  • False, For the logical operator the && is used and & is used as the bitwise operator

4. The product of 2 16-bit unsigned integers can be represented without overflow using a 32-bit unsigned integer.

  • False, Multiplying the 2 16-bit unsigned integers cannot be represented everytime without overflowing using 32-bit unsigned integer

5. A thread can contain multiple processes.

  • False, This is a false statement as the process can contain multiple threads and thread is a part of process. So tread cannot contain multiple processes.

Note: In case of the true or false seems wrong the reasons are the final answers and can amend accordingly, but now worries I have checked it thoroughly

I hope you got an answer with the reasons.
