I wouldn’t say one is more difficult than the other but they have certain subtle differences. One significant place they differ is strategic planning because the way they use their planning goals to establish goals is different. Some organizations create their strategic plan yearly and other companies do them every 3-5 years. The boards of directors have different expectations from nonprofits than they do from government businesses. Also, there are different people involved in the government strategic planning process as opposed to the nonprofit planning process. In both organizations the boards of directors has the final say in adopting a strategic plan.
