give me three good reasons why people should vaccinate & explain a little if you can (its for a persausive speech). also some good counter arguments would be helpful
The major reasons for vaccination could be summarized as below –
1. Vaccine-preventable
diseases are still not completely eliminated
Various diseases like mumps, small-pox, hepatitis etc. are caused
by bacteria and viruses, which still exist in the environment. Not
vaccinating would mean an increased risk of developing disease if
infected by these agents.
2. Vaccines maintain the
health of the individual
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made
recommendations to vaccinate from birth through adulthood. This is
meant to give a lifetime of protection against many diseases and
infections, such as influenza, pneumococcal disease, human
papillomavirus, and hepatitis A and B.
3. Vaccines are not meant to
give a ‘disease’
Vaccines contain heat-inactivated bacteria or viruses, or sometimes
the antigen from the microbe. These are not tantamount to a live
bacteria or virus. Inactivated agents are incapable of performing
metabolism and replication, and cannot cause disease in the
vaccinated individual.
4. Vaccine-preventable
diseases are expensive
An average influenza illness can last up to 15 days. One may have
to miss 10-12 days from school/work. Most of the diseases that are
vaccine-preventable can lead to complications in health and can be
a costly affair in treatment.
5. Community
health
Sometimes, people are unable to get vaccinated owing to age, health
conditions, or other factors even though they are vulnerable to
illness. Vaccinations by those who are near them can ensure that
contagious diseases can be prevented and those who are not
vaccinated are not expose to pathogens at high concentrations.
