Choose an organism and describe one of the potential risks or benefits of the current genetic engineering technology that involves that organism. The organism may be bacteria, plant or animal, but it must be the result of genetic engineering.
Bt cotton is a genetically modified plant. This plant has the ability to produce insecticide which kills ballworms. Bacillus thuriengiensis bacteria produces toxic chemicals that are effectively harmful for various insects.
In producing Bt cotton, the gene which encodes for Bt toxin is inserted into the cotton this making it Bt cotton which by producing Bt toxin can kill insects thus controlling ballworms and thus increasing yield of cotton.
