Exploratory-descriptive qualitative research studies are comprehensive summarization to investigate a solution for the problem which is not clearly solved or little information is available on the problem or topic.
A literature review is the first step to identify what is done and published about the problem. This step helps to gather information about the topic and to develop it. This stage will give you the correct idea about the selection of the topic. Because the selection of the topic in research is a challenging job.
Parts on which literature review should be done are as follows:
If you have not selected a topic
A detailed search for the problem. Do a preliminary search about the information available. For example, if you are willing to do research on any disease, then identify the population affected by it, how many families suffered, what are the positive and negative effects of manifestation of the disease, available treatment, treatment cost, its availability, etc., should be identified. On the basis of this information, the topic will be selected.
Ask some questions to search for the literature like are solution clearly published and mentioned? Are they feasible, economic, accepted, etc,?
If you have selected a topic
What type of research is published about the problem? Whether is it economic to address the problem considering resources available? Evaluate your resource's strength to address the solution. Make notes.
So, it is recommended to do a literature review primarily on the following heads related to the problem:
1. Detailed information about the topic.
2. The data which is available clearly states the solution or not? Whether it requires more clarity?
3. Selection of the resources.
4. Selection of the methods to solve the problem
