A.

Sampling for qualitative studies should stop before information becomes redundant.

B.

If the quality of data being collected is exceptionally good, a smaller sample may suffice than when data are of mediocre quality.

C.

New researchers who have a fresh eye on phenomena can rely on smaller samples than more experienced researchers.

D.

Typical case sampling requires more participants than maximum variation sampling.

Expert Solution

A. Sampling for qualitative studies should stop before the information becomes redundant.

Sampling in qualitative data analysis is not working in quite the same way as quantitative research. The subjects are more complex and it will be based on the analysis used. In order to limit sample size, the researcher has to look for saturation. Saturation is the gold standard of qualitative research. It is a tool used to ensure that adequate, quality data are collected to aid the study.

The sampling is done on specific purpose related to the research question and so the qualitative methods are commonly described as ‘purposive’. It is very important to determine the extensiveness of data collection processes in the planning stage itself.

Sample size in qualitative research depends on purpose and objectives of the research. Samples are selected based on the below facts :

  • Limited number for the intensive study
  • Purposeful selection of samples
  • Selection is based on a conceptual framework
  • Sequential sample selection
  • Objective centred sampling

Below is the extract of a research Qualitative Design The philosophical underpinnings of qualitative studies include perspectives of phenomena and a consideration for multiple realities held by different individuals (Munhall, 2010). The outcomes of qualitative research rely heavily on the information provided by those with subject experience related to the study (the participants), providing data through first- person narratives (Munhall, 2010). The acquisition of contextualized, multi-faceted descriptions enrich the understanding of a phenomenon (Holloway & Wheeler, 2010). In contrast, a...

Is this statement true? Why? The level of significance and sample size shows that the hypothesis can be rejected. The p value in most cases would increase with the sample size. If the sample sizes becomes larger they are subjected to cause the hypothesis to reject. This happens in companies all the time in many different areas. For instance, lets say a company is running a huge marketing campaign. More than often certain companies or even small companies will only...
