1.The Spanish empire set up a castas system (caste,
separation of groups of people). Based on the reading, explain the
following terms in just 1-2 sentences:
-Creoles
They are second class citizens. The creoles wanted to establish control over the spanish dominated economy, to
gain political authority over the peninsulares.

Peninuslares
Peninsulares are any of the colonial residents of Latin America from the 16th through the early 19th
centuries who had been born in Spain.
-Meztizo/Mestiza
Meztizo is a person of mixed racial or ethnic ancestry, especially, in Latin America, of mixed American
Indian and European descent or in the Philippines, of mixed
native and foreign descent.
-"Indians"
Indians are the nationals and citizens of India, the second most
populous nation in the world.
-Mulattos
A person of mixed white an dblack ancestry, especially a person with one white and one black parent.
2. What was the relationship between the Creoles and Peninsulares often like?
Peninsulares were officials born in Europe who held all the important government positions. Creoles were
descendants of Europeans born in Latin America and they aere treated as second class citizens.
