Mammography procedure explanation to the patient:
- Ask the patients medical history to understand the risk
- Ask the patient if she is pregnant or breast feeding
- Tell the patient to wear comfort clothes which will be easy to
remove and wear, and tell not to use deodorants before
procedure
- Explain the patient to undress above the waist
- Tell the patient that other than technician/ doctor nobody will
be allowed inside to ensure privacy
- The doctor will keep the breast flattened on the machine plate
to get a high quality picture and the upper plastic plate will be
lowered to press the breast for 2 seconds to take a picture, and
the position will be changed again to take another picture
- Each time for breast compression takes few seconds and the
procedure will be done in 20 minutes
- Tell the patient to report if pain develops during the
procedure, discomfort is quite normal after mammography due to
compression
- According to the organisations policy ask the patient to
collect the report
