It is a surgical procedure to improve the blood flow to the heart in people with severe Coronary artery disease.
Interventions at preoperative phase
Answer: Option a , Option c, Option D
Option a: Instruct the client how to use Incentive Spirometer :
Preoperative teaching on the use of Incentive Spirometer helps the patient to use the Spirometer effectively in the post operative period to take slow deep breaths and it may hepls to prevent pneumonia in patient.
Option c : Prepare the skin of the chest and legs with surgical prep
CABG involves a long incision on chest to expose heart and coronary artery and also a venous graft , that is needed for the surgery may obtain form the great Saphenous vein of the leg/ thigh. So pre operative preparation of chest and leg is required.
Option d : Explain what to expect after surgery
The nurse has to explain the client in what to expect after a CABG surgery, otherwise unnecessary anxiety may occur in patient post operatively. Patient should be informed that there will be an endotracheal tube in place post operatively , he may not be able to speak temporarily and a care giver will be there always near to his side to meet all of his post operative need.
Other Options are wrong:
Option b: Measure the legs for graduated compression stocking :
There is no need of graduated compression stocking during or after CABG. Grauduated compression stocking is used in severe venous disease and edema.
Option e: Assess the mid- sternal and leg dressing.
