what are the major principles of the Magna Carta. Why has the Magna Carta been considered such an important historical document? In what manner can the Magna Carta be designated a medieval or a feudal document? How is it modern, if it is?
The Magna Carta contains some of our democratic principles related to justice, laws, and freedom from tyranny. The document established the right for people to access the courts, to have a fair trial, and to be consulted before a new tax was imposed. Most importantly, Magna Carta was the first document that established that even leaders must obey the law. In today’s time, the Magna Carta carries little legal weight in modern Britain, as most of its clauses have been repealed and relevant rights ensured by other statutes, but carries historical relevance across the world.
