Explain the differences between TE, TM, and TEM waveguide modes and the difference between guided and unguided EM propagation
Wave guide modes: Electromagnetic waves can travel alnog waveguides using a number of different modes
The different waveguide modes:
1) TE MODE:(Transverse electric waves) This mode is depends on transverse electric waves, these waves are also called H waves, these are characterised by the electric vector(E) being always perpendicular to the direction of propagation
2)TM MODE: (Transverse magnetic waves). these waves are also called E Waves. and these are characterised by the magnetic vector (H vector) is always perpendicular to propagation
3)TE MODE: (TRANSVERSE ELECTRO MAGNETIC WAVE
).These waves cannot propagate within a waveguide ,but is included
for completeness. These waves are characterised by the both the
electric vector(E Vector)
and magnetic vector(H Vector) are perpendicular to the direction of
propagation.
Guided EM propagation | un guided EM PROPAGATION |
It Requires physical path for transmission | In this the signal is broadcasted through air or water |
called wired communication | Called wireless communication |
It provides direction for signals | It doesnot provides direction |
