Use SPSS to conduct the necessary analysis to answer each of the questions based on the following scenario. If a statistical test is used, you should use .05 as the critical level of significance. You are a Nursing instructor at your institution. You teach Intro to Nursing. You want to know how your students’ final averages compare to institutional average for Intro to Nursing, which is 80. The final averages for your students are listed below. 90, 80, 77, 55, 67, 71, 82, 70, 99, 92, 93, 88, 66, 43, 91, 50, 75, 84, 94, 89, 62, 39, 68, 99, 86, 90.

  1. What is the median average for your students?
  2. What is the range of your final averages?
  3. Was your class average higher or lower than the institutional average? What was the difference?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.MEDIAN AVERAGE

The median average is the middle value of the given values.So write the values in numerical order.Here there is no middle number,because there are even number of numbers.So median is the average of two middle values.

39,43,50,55,62,66,67,68,70,71,75,77,80,82,84,86,88,89,90,90,91,92,93,94,99,99.

HERE THE MIDDLE VALUES ARE 80 AND 82,SO MEDIAN IS

MEDIAN=80+82 /2 = 162/2 =81.

2.RANGE OF THE FINAL AVERAGES.

Range is the differnce of the largest and the smallest given value.

here largest value is 99 and smallest value is 39

RANGE=LARGEST VALUE - SMALLEST VALUE

= 99 - 39 = 60.

3.WHETHER THE AVERAGE IS HIGHER OR LOWER THAN THE INSTITUTIONAL AVERAGE

HERE AVERAGE MEANS MEAN OF THE GIVEN VALUES.

MEAN =VALUE OF TOTAL NUMBERS / TOTAL NUMBERS

= 2000 / 26= 76.92 ~ 76.9

Institutional average is 80.here the average is 76.9.so the class average is less than the institutional average. And the difference is 3.1
