Hospital have a lot of changes in both terms of the technology used in the hospital and the design of the hospital. The design changes in the hospitals becomes the place for recovery. In the 19th century patients will visit the hospitals for getting god treatment but they received a limited amount of treatment facility along with their food and a bed. There was a vast improvement from the dark and dirty facilities in the 18th century.
Due to the rapid spread of diseases, Medical professionals understood the need of the windows on the rooms and the importance of cleaned and well aired rooms. Advance in the technology makes the medical professionals to under the spreading of the germs. Designers made the rooms brighter and airier through the air conditioner and central heating controls. Designers used the techniques such as non-slip surfaces and clean plastic surfaces to maintain the hygiene in the hospitals.
Designers noted the importance of distance between accident, emergency department and operation theatres should be close together to increase the patient’s chance for survival. They designed the corridors wider for the easy transportation of the patients in bed or wheel chair.
Nowadays most hospital use specialist acoustics that help to keep noise to a minimum which helps the patient to take rest in a pleasant environment. In most of the hospitals, the children wards are more spacious and they have a play area which will helps the children to be happy. There were specialist care unit for mental and cancer patients because the pleasant surroundings will help the patients to spend the time in the surroundings which will help for a good recovery.
