ECG: Electricity Company of Ghana
- Previously wholly state owned.
- Distribution company. Responsible for distribution of power in southern regions.
VRA: Volta River Authority
- Volta River Development Act 1961 (Act 46)
- Oldest power entity in Ghana.
- Generates hydo-electricity from Volta River. Distributes electricity to bulk customers and other power distribution companies.
BPA: Bui Power Authority
- Bui Power Authority Act 2007 (Act 740)
- Oversee hydropower projects on Black Volta River.
GRIDCO: Ghana Grid Company
- Operates the transmission system NITS.
- One and only electricity transmission company in Ghana.
- Purchase bulk power from generators and sale to ECG and NEDCO.
PURC: Public Utilities Regulatory Commission
- PURC ACT 1997 (Act 538)
- Approves rates charged by the public utilities, ensure competition, monitors standard of performance, protects consumer rights.
NEDCO: Northern Electricity Development Company
- Registered as wholly owned subsidiary of VRA (Volta River Authority)
- Power distribution company.
- Covers about 64% of the geographical area of Ghana.
