In your opinion: What are the most effective ways to positively reinforce people who may be confused with their gender or going through transition?
The world itself is in a trnsition point in terms of accepting or rejecting the transgenders. It's still preparing them to welcome in their abode except few countries where individuality is given more importance but there too, they face more problems. The world of transgenders is also very diverse. Some identify themselves as male or female, while some wanted to be addressed in some other names such as genderqueer, non-binary, agender etc. Transition takes place physically, psychologically, socially and emotionally. Some want to make physical changes while others don't.
1. Mental health - Transgenders or people in transitionphase in becoming transgenders undergo tremendous pressure of rejection, comments and even attack from the rest of the society. They need someone to hear what they are and who they want to be. Otherwise, it's loneliness that would affect them because of the rejection they face. We could create space and awareness for them in educational institutions and work places.
2. Emotional maltreatment - This is the second phase of rejection. They receive lots of emotional maltreatment from where they study, work and live. Rejection is understood but emotional maltreatment pushes to a corner where they make unwanted decisions such as suicide. So we need to educate the rest of the world about the transition and transgenders. We should also arrange certain psychological counseling to make a meaningful intervention to prevent them from undergoing the transition or make sure the transition is smooth.
3. Education - There is no awareness among the other children about the turmoil the transgender or transgenders in the process experience. So it's duty of the schools and colleges to educate all their students about them. All the institutions should also make sure they get enough support in terms of counseling and other means. Only if this stage is successfully administered, they will be able to complete their school or college education successfully which will eventually prepare them for a job.
4. Fear of employment - This is a common confusion among the transgenders or people who are in the transition. The fear of getting a job because there is no guarantee that they will get a job in companies, although they say fair treatment for all the genders. Governments, multi-national companies and NGOs should ensure that this world is for everyone despite of their gender, age, caste etc.
