Consider designing a clinical trial for a new COVID vaccine. Simply answer the questions below using 1 - 3 sentences for each. Make a brief claim as to why you have chosen your answer. \
You have a two-dose vaccine to trial. It must be frozen until immediately before administration. Answer the following questions:
1) What age groups would you test the vaccine in?
2) What would your comparison group be? (For example, placebo, other type of vaccine)
3) List and describe one ethical consideration that you would consider when testing this vaccine.
1.I would test the vaccine over a wide range of age groups for a clear understanding. But I would have adults over 60 years more in number since the virus seems to have affected this age group more
2. I would have two placebo groups. One group could be given the normal saline solution and the other could be given a vaccine for meningitis. I would choose a real vaccine cause it would cause similar effects at the injection site and the patients would be confused thinking that as the actual covid vaccine.
3.Participants should be treated with equal respect. They should
be selected in such a way that
minimizes risk, protects (but does not exclude) vulnerable
populations, maximizes the social value
and collaborative partnerships, and does not jeopardize the
scientific validity of the research.
Pregnant women, minorities, children, and other groups considered
to be ‘vulnerable’ should not
be routinely excluded from research participation without
reasonable scientific and ethical
justification. Any exclusion from participation in research should
be justified by robust and
current scientific evidence, such as an unfavorable benefit-risk
ratio.
