Arizonans dying from a terminal illness lack the death with dignity option at the end of life. Modeled on the Oregon Death with Dignity Act, aid in dying legislation would allow qualified, terminally-ill adult residents of Arizona to legally obtain a prescription from their physician for medications to end their life peacefully, in a dignified way, at the place and time of their choosing.

Perspective of the patient, family, or community and its role in reducing the cost for health care insurers

.Patient can have concept of “My life ,My death ,My choice.

utilizing this end of life option eliminate prolonged suffering of the terminally illness.

  • Patient can end their own life on their terms instead of the letting terminally illness decide.
  • Patient doesn’t fight it again with the suffering illness.
  • Provided that two doctors certify that a person is terminally ill and mentally competent, Arizonans favor a law that would permit such individuals who wish to end their lives to self-administer a lethal drug.
  • On family part they can the stop the cost for caring the terminally illness patient.
  • The proposed legislation is modeled after time-tested laws already in effect in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, New Jersey, Vermont, Maine, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia (Montana also has it by court decision).
  • As is true in all these states, utilizing this end of life option will be straightforward and easy to understand. Yet it will include many legal, medical and ethical safeguards to prevent abuse or misuse. These safeguards have been proven effective for over two decades since the first such law took effect in Oregon in 1997.
