Obesity:- obesity is defined as a condition of body when it consumes and store more calories than it burn and results in more accumulation of fat on body.

Causes of Obesity:-

As obesity occurs when body consumes more calories than it burns, many people consider it is simply caused by overeating and under-exercising. Research has now proved that obesity is a complex medical problem that involves physiological, psychological, genetic,.and social factors as all these factors can cause obesity.

  • Genetic factors: A person's genetic characteristics may contribute to obesity, although it's not the primary cause. He or she is more likely to develop obesity if one or both parents are obese.
  • Physiological factors: people with inactive ness burn fewer calories than people who are active and are prone to obesity as they accumulate more fats not burning it. Behaviour of consuming excess calories from high-fat foods and doing little or no daily physical activity over the long run will lead to weight gain may cause obesity.
  • Psychological factors : For some people, emotions influence eating habits. Boredom, anger , low self-esteem, guilt, emotional stress, or trauma leads to overeating as a means to cope with the problem and get suffered from obesity.
  • Eating habits : Frequent overeating habits with more carbohydrates and fats contained food intake is one of the cause of obesity.
  • Diseases and Medication: Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome, and Cushing's syndrome are also contributors to obesity. Medication for some of the above mentioned diseases also lead to obesity as it induce the weight gain that differs for each medication.
  • Social factors : There is a connection in between social factors and obesity. Lack of money to purchase healthy foods or lack of nearby healthy food stores places increase the risk of obesity.

Treatment for obesity:-

Obesity is diagnosed when your body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher. Your body mass index is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms (kg) by your height in meters (m) squared. After the diagnosis, obesity needs a treatments accordingly.

An appropriate weight management program in combination with physical activity, healthy diet, and change in daily habits. Obesity also reduced by changing lifestyle and behavioural patterns that are required.

Regular physical activity is an important part of weight management. In addition to managing weight, exercise also improves overall health and controls obesity.

  • A healthy diet plan :- consuming low-calorie, nutrient rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains and avoiding saturated fat and limit sweets and alcohol prevent obesity.
  • Monitor your weight regularly: Monitoring weight can tell whether ongoing efforts are working and can help to detect small weight gains before they cause big problems of obesity.
  • Be consistent : Sticking to regular exercise and healthy diet plan can successfully prevent obesity
