What questions do we ask ourselves as professional communicators before applying a tactic to a campaign? How do we segment our publics? Who are we trying to reach?
To apply a tactic as a professional communicator to a campaign the questions should be what is the goal of the campaign, who are the target audience, what is the message to be conveyed, what is the research done for communicating the message, what are the means to reach to the audience, what is the budget of the campaign and how will the campaign success be evaluated? These questions will clear the campaign process and the outcomes desired from it.
The tactic applied to a campaign can only work when a communicator has answers to all these questions. He should know what is the campaign helping for. His target audience and the market should be identified for deciding on the tactic for the campaign. The message should be clearly defined and designed and the mode of communication should be predetermined evaluating the procs and cons of all the mediums. The budget of the campaign makes a difference in the decision of the tactic used as each one costs different from others. Lastly evaluating the campaign and its success is important hence the method of the evaluation should be predecided too.
We can segment the public by first determining the public that will be most attracted and persuaded by the campaign. They can be narrowed using different factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, location, religious and political views etc. The factors that can help us in narrowing the public for the campaign can be determining the audience which will help us to meet our campaign objectives, how easy or difficult it is to persuade them and what ways can be used for it. The audience that has more influence and impact on the public in large can be chosen for the campaign. The audience should be such that help in the campaign success directly and also influence others to participate in it. These tactics can help us to get the right audience for the campaign and make it impactful.
