Do you think today is another Gilded age?
The gilded age time is known as a
time where the economy of the USA and its population grew with
faster rate and it was the time full of political corruption,
speculation and moral hazards in the banking & financial market
and concentration of wealth into fewer people than the majority of
the population. This time was basically between 1870 and the world
war-1.
Though, today’s time is not a gilded age time as there is a far
superior and proactive regulatory framework that can control
corruption either in the political system or in the corporate and
institutions. Besides, the media is very independent and can bring
movement to eradicate the corrupt practices. Financial markets
suffered in recent times, due to the misuse of deregulation and
speculative investments. But, there are agencies and their laws in
place to prevent such crisis in the future. Globalization is also
playing a role to play in economic development, today as it was not
there at the time of the gilded age. So, it can be said that today
is not a gilded age time.
