I am the eldest child in the family. I was 20 years old and my two other siblings where 8 and 4 years old when our youngest sister was born. When the youngest sibling was 2 years old,I left out for college, so I I was not able to interact much with her. As I am growing up,I used to help my other three siblings with their School homework and other home activities. They would also come up with their disagreements and look up to me to handle it. Whenever my parents were away they would leave me to look after them and would quarrel if anything happened to them.
According to Rohrer et al,2015: Birth order is assumed to have an enduring outcome on individuals life course including intelligence and other personality traits such as Extraversion and Neuro criticism. That is somewhat true regarding my family. I had better grades than the second born in the school and is followed by third born child. I was also able to handle difficult situations while remaining capable and productive. In addition to it I never get stucked in the sadness for long and never descend into despair when encountered with everyday frustrations. However I am the most introverted in out family and the the third born child is the most extroverted which indicates that birth order does not influence this kind of personality trait in my family.
My experiences have positively transformed me as a early childhood educator. Some of my responsibilities as an early childhood educator is to provide a safe environment and influence toddlers emotional development. Since I was the first born of the family and was mostly left with the responsibility to take care of my younger siblings, I developed the ability to provide caring ,safe and stimulating environment for the children by easily detecting and avoiding potential risk and health hazards. My strong emotional stability made it easy for me to positively influence children's self esteem.
