Explain where Mental Health Counselor fit, and describing how Mental Health Counselors might collaborate with an Addictions Counselor, Cite the articles or other sources you use for the basis of your ideas. In this part, specifically address the following questions:
1) How have those key philosophies developed? Provide a brief historical perspective of the counseling profession focused on the key philosophies of wellness, resilience, and prevention. Include the beliefs and assumptions that support those philosophies.
Mental Health counseling can be described a therapy for people with emotional problems that affect their day to day lives.Counseling in the 19th century began when people started talking about their emotional problems and was practiced in the form of advise.Earlier they called themselves social advocates and teachers and helped people in education,legal reforms and employment guidance.Sigmund Frued developed the theory of psychoanalysis where it focused on the internal conflicts and brought about psychotherapy.In early 1900's three pioneer's contributed to advancement of counseling Frank parsons,Jessie B Davis and and Clifford Beer's .The two improtant bench marks helped to spread its paractice,firstly in 1913 the national vocational guidance association (NVGA) the forerunner of today's American Counseling Association.In 1917 the Smith's Huge act to provide public schools funding for vocational education.Army's psychological screeing devices were set for psychological testing.
Addiction Counseling has a history as early as native American advocacy leaders ,19th century temparence missionaries has lay alcohol therapists, and para professional counsels working in the 20 th century contributed to evolution of modern addiction counselling as a specialized profession.
Addiction counselling addresses the problems related to alchohol and drug abuse,the recovery and approaches to treatment involving use of behavioural therapies to eliminate addiction.The first step is to work on the client to refrain for drugs and alchohol and the second to develop psychosocial skills for the recovery.Mental health counseling is an integral part as the counselor will be using cognitive behaviour therapies to treat addiction.
