ANOREXIA NERVOSA

MEANING

It is a complex eating disorder characterized by obsessive persuit ofthinness through dieting with exreme weight loss and disturbance of the body image.

ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS

Environmental factors

• The effect of thickness culture in media that constantly reinforce thin people as ideal sterotype
• Proffessions and carriers that promote being thin and weight loss, such as ballet and modeling.
• Peer pressure among friends and co-workers be thin

Biological factors

• Irregular hormone functions
• Genetics (the tie between anorexia and one's genes is still being heavily reserched, but we know the genetics is a part of the body.)

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

• Voluntary restriction of the food
• Distored body image and thin body
• Fear of gaining weight
• Use of diuretics and laxatives
• Excessive exercise

MEDICAL CONSEQUENCES

Cardiac

• ECG abnormalities such as T wave inversion ST depression and Prolonged QT interval.
• Arrhythmias including profound sinus bradycardia andventricular tacchycardia.

Haematological

• Anaemia
• Thrombocytopenis
• Leucopenia

Endocrine

• Pubertal delay or arrest
• Growth retardation and short stature
• Amenorrhoea
• Sick euthyroid state

Metabolic

Orthorexia is an eating disorder that involves an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating.Orthorexia is a newly coined eating pattern which disproportionately affects Western countries.People eat such terrible foods, they have no idea of what heathy actually.

Now a days some people foccus on healthy eating can become obessive and develop into an eating desorders known as orthorexia.

The main reason of orthorexia as a growing concern in our socirty is due to,

Compulsive behaviours or mental preoccupations with dietary choices are believed to promote optimal health.

• Self -Imposed anxiety

Breaking self -imposed dietary rules causes anxiety,shame, fear of disease, sense ofimpurity, or negative physical sensations.

• Severe restrictions

Dietary restrictions that escalate overtime and can include the elimination of entire food groups and addtion of cleanses fasts or both.

• Medical issues

Medical issues such as malnutrition , severe weight loss or other medical complications.

• Life style Disruptions

It Includes personal distress or difficult social or acadamic functioning due to belifes or behaviours related to healthy eating can cause lifestyle disruptions.

• Emotioanl dependance

Body image,self worth, identity, or satisfaction can be excessively dependent on complying with self imposed dietry rules.
