5. Heparin 10,000 units in 500 ml D5W. Run at 30 ml/hr. How many units/hr would you administer Order:
5. We are provided that there are 10,000 units of Heparin in 500 ml D5W
which means 1ml of D5W will have 10,000units/500ml = 20units/ml or 20 units of Heparin in every 1mL of solution.
Now, run rate = 30ml/hr
Therefore, for 30ml, total units of Heparin = 30ml x 20units/ml = 600units
Hence rate becomes 600units/hr.
