What is the distribution of the various immunoglobulins in an adult versus a fetus
Immunoglobulins in healthy adult
•IgA : 70-400mg/dl
( IgA is an antibody blood protein that's part of our immune system. )
•IgG : 700-1600mg/dl
( it is the long lasting antibody present in body even after the infection , but slow acting)
•IgM : 40-230mg/dl
( it is the first antibody which increase in human body when any antigen start to attack the body, but short acting )
•IgE : IgE antibodies are normally found in small amount in the blood. But higher amount can be a sign that the body overreact to allergens
Immunoglobulins in fetus
•IgA : detection of IgA T gondii antibodies may be useful for diagnosis of some recently acquired infection and for diagnosis and follow up of the infection in the fetus- week 24 of pregnancy( cant cross placenta)
•IgG : 5%-10% of maternal level at weeks 17-22 but reached 50% of maternal concentration at weeks 28-32. ( can cross the placenta)
•IgM : 0.5 mg/dl increase in IgM per week of gestation ( first immunoglobulin developed during human fetal development at 20 weeks)
•IgE : linear regression analysis revealed that the IgE level in the third trimester was negatively correlated with birth weight ( P< 0.05)
