Compare and contrast these THREE terms: Incomplete Dominance, Incomplete Penetrance, and Epistasis
1. Write TWO things that are similar amongst the three terms.
2. Write TWO things that are unique to Incomplete Dominance
3. Write TWO things that are unique to Incomplete Penetrance
4. Write TWO things that are unique to Epistasis
1.
All the three are types of non mendelian inheritance patterns.
None of them shows any lethal phenotype.
2.
Caused by two alleles at one gene locus where one allele incompletely dominant over the other allele
The heterozygotes show a phenotype which is an intermediate of the two extreme phenotypes.
Only three phenotypes can be observed.
3.
It is not caused by the presence or absence of alleles, in fact, it is the feature of a trait. It is the ability of a trait to penetrate or express itself in the given population. The percentage by which a trait is able to express itself in a population is penetrance.
Sometime the genotype is not related the phenotype.
Number of phenotype is highly variable. Even for the same genotypes, different phenotypes can be observed because of incomplete penetrance of the trait.
4.
It is the non allelic interaction between two genes where the alleles at one gene locus mask the effect of our lives at other gene locus.
The number of phenotypes for a given set of epistatic alleles can range from 2 to 4.
Please rate high.
