A Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) is a group of health quality experts, clinicians, and consumers organized to improve the quality of care delivered to people with Medicare. There are two types of QIOs that work under the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in support of the QIO Program.Beneficiary and Family Centered Care (BFCC)and Quality Innovation Network
BFCC-QIOs help Medicare beneficiariesexercise their right to high-quality health care. They manage all beneficiarycomplaints and quality of care reviews to ensure consistency in the review process while taking into consideration local factors important to beneficiaries and their families
Generally, Medicare is available for people age 65 or older, younger people with disabilities and people with End Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant).Medicare is a federal program that provides health coverage if you are 65+ or under 65 and have a disability, no matter your income. Medicaid is a state and federal program that provides health coverage if you have a very low income. They will work together to provide you with health coverage and lower your costs.
Positive impacts:
Medicaid is more inclusive for many
For states that have chosen to expand their program, Medicaid
coverage now includes uninsured Americans under 138% of the federal
poverty level.
Dependents can stay under parents’ plan
longer
Your children can be insured under your health plan until they are
26 years old.
Negative impacts:
The cost has not decreased for everyone
Those who do not qualify for subsidies may find marketplace health
insurance plans unaffordable. Customers may end up paying more for
a plan that includes benefits, such as maternity care, that they
may not need.
Loss of company-sponsored health plans
Some businesses may find it more cost-effective to pay the penalty
and let their employees purchase their own individual insurance on
the exchanges rather than provide employer-sponsored coverage.
