Jordan is now 40 years old. After a brief tour in the Air Force (once-deployed) and a few rounds of stopping and starting a college education while trying to figure out what he wanted to do, he finally graduated with a 3.7 GPA as a nontraditional, working, online student. Jordan’s degree is in human services, after which he went on to earn a master’s degree in counseling. His new job is on an Army post where he works as a civilian with returning soldiers. Jordan feels that there is much meaning and purpose related to the work that he does, but he feels overworked, underpaid, exhausted, lacking motivation, and dreads going to work each day.
What would you say Jordan is experiencing and what do you recommend that he do to improve his current situation?
In this case jorden is experiencing Stress. We all have periods of high energy where productivity comes easily, as well as periods of low energy where your work doesn't come so easily. He is contributing great hand to the nation and for the society. Below are some ways to improve his current situation,
1. Just get started : Before we start on a big project, our brain attempts to simulate real, productive work by focusing on small, mindless tasks. The result is we dont start the task and the reason we feel more anxious. That's why, sometimes, we don't need a particular thing to motivate us. We just need to get started, and a more focused and productive mental state will follow.
2. Rework your to-do list : Stop what you're doing everyday and take a few minutes to either make a new to-do list or rework the one you already have. This small step can not only help your productivity, but it can also help get rid of that uncomfortable, anxious feeling you get when you procrastinate. Thinking of a goal for the day writing it down and working towards it will help to achieve it.
3. Meditate : Taking ten or twenty minutes out of your workday to meditate is a great way to use a break time. It also helps boost your mood. Intensive meditation can help you focus and sustain your attention -- even during the most boring of tasks.
4. Talk to coworkers : If you just need a break from the task at hand, grab a coworker and talk a short walk. If you need some inspiration, choose that coworker wisely, and use the time to bounce ideas off of them
5. Commit publicly : Accountability works. You don't have to go public with your goals to reap the benefits of accountability. You can do it with coworkers, or with friends and family.
6. Change your location : Your work can affect your motivation levels, so change your location in this case it can be jordan desk or his sleeping bed or his eating habits. Anything which he is doing regularly can be changed in order ti get some change in life.
7. Listen to pump-up music : Music motivates us. Music engages our bodies' sympathetic nervous systems. Our airway opens, our heart accelerates, and our muscles become primed for movement. When the speed, intensity, or volume of the music rises, our pulse quickens and our breathing accelerates.
It's OK to take your foot off the gas pedal every once in a while and to adjust your work output to your current motivation level, and even take a vacation if you can. It's good for you. I believe that believe after returning from vacation jorden will be recharged and ready to work more effectively.
